Development cooperation and Local Government’s added value for sustainable investment planning and development: unlocking the full potential
In the framework of the World Council of UCLG, the Working Group on Capacity and Institution Building (CIB) in its capacity of a technical platform for professionals from Local Government Associations and individual local governments active in the field of capacity development and local government development cooperation, is organizing a working roundtable.
Local governments are critical in addressing urgent issues such as urbanization, migration, climate change, energy transitions, and sustainable economic development. They face the challenge of providing essential services to their rapidly growing, youthful populations. Success in this regard promises significant opportunities for prosperity. Key questions include how cities can develop effective infrastructure, ensure sustainability in the long term, and secure investment financing. Local Government Associations are identified as pivotal platforms for knowledge sharing, advocacy, and networking, playing a vital role in maintaining and operating infrastructure post-construction, along with providing technical assistance.
