To celebrate and promote the pillars of the Pact for the Future, particularly the recognition of the universal right to Accessibility, during the Retreat, UCLG and the Municipal Institute of Persons with Disabilities Barcelona will hold an accessibility tour in the iconic Monastery of Pedralbes.
The inspiration for this tour comes from the 2022 collaboration between UCLG and the World Blind Union on the
Journal of Public Space special issue on Universal Accessible Public Spaces for All, which includes direct contributions from representatives of the UCLG Community of Practice on Inclusive and Accessible Cities and Territories.
With the beautiful background of the Monastery of Pedralbes, the guided tour will give an on the ground experience to the case study submitted by Barcelona in the Journal under the title:
“The Accessibility Chain: a Challenge and Opportunity for Cities and People with Disabilities”. Starting with a summary on how Barcelona has been working on its municipal Universal Accessibility Plan, participants will then explore the Monastery to understand some actions put in place to achieve the accessibility and promote targets 11.2 and 11.3 of the 2030 agenda.
