Building bridges: From vision to collective action

All participants. Special focus on the local and regional government.

During the past years the Global Taskforce has been meeting annually at a technical level, in order to define the joint work plan and align strategies of the different organization members towards international policy processes.

In the very recent years, the Global Taskforce agreed to make additional efforts to strengthen the political representation mechanisms to produce joint policy products and to enhance in depth policy dialogues. All of these tracks have been pursued with special attention towards alignment on international representation and political mobilization during 2022 and 2023 key moments.

This path towards alignment has been consolidated in the five past years through the enhancement of the Global Taskforce members and partners during thorough policy processes at the UCLG World Congress in Daejeon. It is also worth mentioning the important achievements in the acknowledgement and recognition of our work in the Climate Change Agreements, the increased momentum of the localization strategy, and the acknowledgement of our constituency through the UN Secretary General’s Advisory Board of Local and Regional Governments as well as the World Assembly of Local and Regional Governments.

2023 should be the year in which the GTF continues planting the seeds for joint policy development and enhancing policy dialogue. As 2023 will include the Mid Term Review of the Sustainable Development Goals with the SDG Summit, the constituency of local and regional governments will continue to push for a consolidated united voice through the World Assembly.
