Executive Bureau 2022
Local and regional governments fostering peace at the front line of emergencies
🔴 The New Urban Agenda Under Review – UCLG Executive Bureau Thematic Session
In cooperation with the UCLG Policy Council on the Implementation of the New Urban Agenda.
🎯 Description: Local and regional governments are vital actors in ensuring that the New Urban Agenda is not only achieved but that it also acts as an accelerator of other global development agendas such as the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs. In light of the High-Level Meeting of the UN General Assembly convened by the UNPGA on the Implementation of the New Urban Agenda that took place in April 2022 in New York, it is clear that more needs to be done to ensure the New Urban Agenda is realized and that a clear link is established between it and other global policy-making processes. This session will go into depth on the follow up to the High-Level Meeting in New York and next steps for the local and regional government consituency in ensuring the New Urban Agenda and its official review and follow up mechanism, the World Assembly of Local and Regional Governments, are front and center in the road towards leaving no one and no place behind.
This session of the Talks will also incorporate peacebuilding organizations and will lead to concrete action within the UCLG work program, in the framework of the broader Peace Agenda.
